Graduate Student Luisa Rangel presents at Kentucky Foreign Language Conference 2026

 Luisa writes:
"I participated in a professional academic conference held at the University of Kentucky, where I
presented my paper titled “Migración Forzada de Mujeres Zapotecas en el Istmo de
Tehuantepec: Extractivismo, Capital Emocional y Resistencia Decolonial.” My presentation
examined the impact of extractivist projects in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and their role in
shaping forced migration, with particular attention to Indigenous women’s experiences and
decolonial forms of resistance.
This conference provided an important platform to share my research with scholars working in
Latin American literature, decolonial studies, and Indigenous studies. The feedback I received
was both insightful and constructive, especially regarding the theoretical framework connecting
emotional capital and decolonial resistance. Several participants expressed interest in the
originality of my approach, particularly my focus on Indigenous women’s embodied knowledge
and resistance strategies.
One of the highlights of the conference was the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary
dialogue. Panels addressed topics such as migration, gendered violence, memory, and
environmental justice, all of which are directly relevant to my dissertation research. These
discussions allowed me to refine my analytical approach and consider new methodological
perspectives that I plan to incorporate into my work.

faculty and graduate students from other institutions, opening the possibility for future
collaborations and academic exchanges. These interactions are essential for my professional
development and integration into the broader academic community.

of my dissertation project. It strengthened my research, expanded my academic network, and
