Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations

Transfer credit is granted for each College Board Advanced Placement AP examination completed with an official score of 3, 4 or 5.  The credit will be part of the minimum 180 quarter units you need in order to receive a bachelor's degree.  The credit from the AP examinations may also be used to satisfy specific degree requirements.

Advanced Placement Exams

Students who have taken the AP exam are obligated to follow the placement level prescribed by their score.

There are two types of AP Spanish exams:

Spanish Language & Culture Exam

  • AP Score of 3 is equivalent to completing SPA 021: You must enroll in SPA 022.
  • AP Score of 4 is equivalent to completing SPA 022: You must enroll in SPA 023.
  • AP Score of 5 is equivalent to completing SPA 023: You must enroll in SPA 024.

Spanish Literature & Culture Exam

  • AP Score of 3 is equivalent to completing SPA 023: You must enroll in SPA 024.
  • AP Score of 4 or 5 is equivalent to completing SPA 024: You must enroll in Spanish Upper-Division Courses (numbered 100 and above). It is recommend that you start with Group 1: SPA 100, SPA 141, or SPA 170

Students are not allowed to register for courses below their placement: this counts as an illegal repeat. For example, a student who received a 4 in the AP Spanish Language & Culture Exam cannot take SPA 022 or courses lower than this since they have been placed above this level.

Here is how the AP score appears in your OASIS Academic Record tab: (i.e. (SPA 022) - APSP - ADV PLAC Spanish Language (score: 4)) . This means you should enroll in the next course: SPA 023!
