The Spanish minor assures a basic proficiency in Spanish and acquaints students with the language, literature, and traditions of the Spanish-speaking world. In today's global economy, this minor is an asset to almost any major.
Spanish Minor Requirements (Revised 2/6/08)
Lower Division - Preparatory Subject Matter (0-37 units)
Spanish Language through SPA 24 or SPA 33:
Spanish 1, 1S, 1V, or 1Y; 2, 2S, 2V or 2Y; 3, 3S, 3V, or 3Y; 21, 21S, 21V, or 21Y; 22, 22S, 22V, or 22Y; 23 or 23S; and 24 or 24S OR
Spanish 31, 32, 33
Linguistics 1 (4 units) RECOMMENDED not required.
Note: In consultation with a departmental adviser and with the consent of the department chairperson, Linguistics 1 may be taken concurrently with upper division courses.
Upper Division - Depth Subject Matter (23-24 units)
One course in each of the following five areas (19-20 units):
- Area 1 (4 units): SPA 100*, 100S, 141, 141S, 168, 170, or 170S
- Area 2 (3-4 units): SPA 111N, 115, 115S, or 116
- Area 3 (4 units): SPA 130, 131N, 134A, or 142
- Area 4 (4 units): SPA 150N, 151, 157, 159 or 159S
- Area 5 (4 units): SPA 117, 174, 176, SPA 169 or 177
* Students planning to take Spanish 110 should do so at the beginning of the upper division sequence or concurrently with Spanish 100.
Elective:
- One additional upper-division course within the Spanish program (4 units)
